About Our Kitchen Cabinetry & Millwork Service

Cabinetry and millwork is where a kitchen stops looking assembled and starts looking built. Rather than sizing a room to fit standard boxes, we build boxes to fit the room — full-height runs that meet the ceiling cleanly, panelled island returns, integrated appliance surrounds and range hood enclosures that read as architecture instead of an add-on.

The joinery matters. We specify furniture-grade plywood and hardwood carcasses, dovetailed or dowelled drawer boxes, mortised hinges where a project calls for inset doors, and solid hardwood face frames and mouldings milled to profiles chosen for your home's period. Every panel is finished with a catalysed coating that resists the steam and temperature swings of a working kitchen.

Detail work carries the same attention: crown and light-rail mouldings scaled to ceiling height, fluted or reeded pilasters flanking a range, beaded panels on island backs, floating shelves with concealed steel, and toe-kick and scribe details that close tightly to uneven Michigan floors. These are the elements that most homeowners cannot name but always notice.

This service fits homeowners renovating a period home, builders who need a kitchen to match existing trim packages, and designers specifying a bespoke look that no cabinet catalogue offers. Because we mill and install ourselves, we can match an existing profile in an older Dearborn or Grosse Pointe home rather than asking you to accept the closest stock alternative.

How We Work

Our Kitchen Cabinetry & Millwork Process

Four clear stages, from the first conversation to the final walkthrough — so you always know what happens next.

  1. Step 1

    Site review and scope

We visit the home, review existing trim, ceiling heights and wall conditions, and agree the scope of cabinetry and millwork. Photographs and profile rubbings are taken where matching is required. You get a clear picture of what can be fabricated and what must be adapted.

  2. Step 2

    Shop drawings

Dimensioned elevations and section details are produced for every run, including moulding profiles, reveals and appliance openings. You approve these drawings before fabrication, which is the point at which most costly surprises are eliminated. Revisions at this stage are free.

  3. Step 3

    Fabrication and finishing

Carcasses, doors and mouldings are built and finished to the approved drawings under controlled conditions. Components are dry-assembled and inspected before they leave for site. Finishing is completed before delivery wherever possible to keep dust and odour out of your home.

  4. Step 4

    Installation and detailing

Our installers set and level the runs, scribe to walls and floors, fit mouldings and hang doors to consistent reveals. Hardware is adjusted and touch-ups completed on site. We finish with a joint walkthrough and a punch list closed before we leave.

Kitchen Cabinetry & Millwork — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between cabinetry and millwork?

Cabinetry refers to the boxes, doors and drawers that carry storage, while millwork covers the architectural woodwork around them — mouldings, panelling, hood surrounds and trim. Most luxury kitchens need both to feel finished. We design and install them together so the transitions are seamless.

Can you match the trim in my existing home?

In most cases yes. We photograph and template your existing profiles, then mill new stock to match so the addition does not announce itself. Where an original profile is no longer available in standard stock, we produce a custom knife to reproduce it.

Is custom cabinetry more durable than stock?

Generally yes, because the construction specification is ours rather than a price-point compromise. Plywood carcasses, hardwood face frames, dovetailed drawer boxes and catalysed finishes all extend service life significantly. The difference shows most after ten years of daily use.
